To commemorate PlayStation‘s 30th Anniversary, Sony has announced a special limited edition set for PS5 and its Pro version. Releasing on November 21, 2024, the company limits the exclusive product to 12,300 units, each marked with the release date of the original PlayStation console. Despite paying homage to the original’s iconic, grayish design and four-colored logo, the PS5 bundle only includes the Digital version. Meanwhile, the external disc drive is still sold separately for the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary bundle.

This decision has been met with mixed reactions from the community. On the reveal YouTube video, many have expressed their disappointment.

“To be truly authentic to the original, it should come with a disc drive,” one commenter said. Another wrote, “I can’t believe they’re showing us two PS5 consoles without a disc drive for the anniversary.” Another one begged Sony not to sell digital-only consoles and neglect “physical game collectors.”

If you’re curious about what the bundle has to offer, the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Limited Edition set includes:

  • Limited edition PS5 Pro console with 2TB SSD.
  • Limited edition DualSense controller.
  • DualSense Edge wireless controller.
  • DualSense Charging Station.
  • Console Cover for a Disc Drive (Disc Drive sold separately).
  • Vertical Stand.
  • A collection of collector’s items:
    • Original PlayStation controller-style cable connector housing.
    • Four PlayStation Shapes cable ties.
    • PlayStation sticker.
    • Limited Edition PlayStation Poster (1 of 30 possible designs).
    • PlayStation Paperclip.

The standard PS5 Digital Edition 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle presents a similar set:

  • PS5 Digital Edition console with 1TB SSD.
  • Limited edition DualSense controller.
  • Console Cover for a Disc Drive (Disc Drive sold separately).
  • Vertical Stand.
  • Special collector’s items:
    • Original PlayStation controller-style cable connector housing.
    • Four PlayStation Shapes cable ties.
    • PlayStation sticker.
    • Limited Edition PlayStation Poster (1 of 30 possible designs).
    • PlayStation Paperclip.

Aside from the main PS5 limited edition console, Sony also offers a PlayStation-styled PlayStation Portal Remote Player. The 30th Anniversary DualSense Edge and the standard DualSense controller are available as standalone purchases as well.

Players with a PlayStation Network account will be able to pre-order the 30th Anniversary Collection items directly from PlayStation starting September 26. The limited edition DualSense will be available for pre-order through brick-and-mortar stores on the same day as well. However, participating stores only start to take pre-orders for the PS5 Digital Edition bundle a bit later — from October 10.
