Rachel Zegler enters the arena in a new trailer for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes released earlier today. Zegler will star in The Hunger Games prequel as Lucy Gray Baird, a District 12 tribute who’s forced to fight for her life in the arena while her mentor, a much younger Coriolanus Snow, finds himself dangerously torn between his duty to the Games and his feelings for his friend and mentee. Together, the pair is going to change the war-torn world of Panem, whether they’re ready or not.
Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth Team Up in ‘The Hunger Games’ Prequel Trailer
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, based on the Hunger Games prequel of the same name, dropped its first teaser trailer back in June of 2022, followed by a full-length trailer showcased at CinemaCon in April. The movie will follow 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) who, decades before he becomes president of Panem, is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Zegler), a District 12 tribute who causes a stir by singing at her reaping ceremony. The pair decide to put their talents for showmanship and political intrigue together, forming a duo with bonds that extend outside the arena and their official mentor-mentee relationship.
The newest trailer for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes shows a version of Coriolanus Snow who’s far more conflicted than his older, tyrannical self, and finds himself torn between his duty to the Games and his new feelings for Lucy, who he greets with a single white rose upon her arrival in the Capitol. While the trailer is littered with scenes of the two growing ever closer, Snow is also under pressure from the Dean of the Academy, Casca Highbottom, and Head Gamemaker Volumnia Gaul, who put him face-to-face with one incredibly important question: “What are the Hunger Games for?”
Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth, Peter Dinklage, and Viola Davis will all star in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 17th.
