A recent incident in Delaware has drawn attention online after a man got into a heated confrontation with a female Amazon driver whom he accused of making racist remarks toward him and his family. In the video he posted to TikTok, which has racked up tens of thousands of views, the two can be seen arguing in what appears to be a residential neighborhood.
According to the man, the whole thing started after his mother drove past the Amazon employee and noticed she was allegedly looking down at her phone while operating the vehicle. He claimed his mother warned the woman to be careful while driving so nobody would get hurt. However, the employee allegedly responded with racial slurs, including calling her a monkey, before telling her to mind her business.
The man said his mother immediately called to tell him what had happened, and he quickly rushed to the scene to confront the woman himself.
Video from their brief standoff shows the woman sitting inside the delivery van while the man films from outside. He asked her multiple times for her name and the identity of her manager, but instead she yelled that he was a “criminal” and could not help being one. She could also be heard in the clip saying that he had a “monkey face” and that she found him “disgusting.”
The man said he would report her and try to get her fired, but she appeared unfazed and drove off without resolving the dispute.
Netizens’ Reactions to the Amazon Driver Incident in Delaware
In the comments under his post, many viewers sympathized with the man and condemned the Amazon driver’s alleged racist remarks. One person wrote, “@Amazon Do you allow your workers to be racist & call black people monkeys? This is not acceptable.” Another said, “Im so sorry she talked to you like that.” A third remarked, “Racism is so heartbreaking.”
Some people also encouraged the family to pursue legal options, with one netizen writing, “Do not let this slide.” Someone else urged, “Find a lawyer and sue amazon.” Another suggested, “My best advice would be to contact Amazon tell them you have video proof and you threaten to sue, she’ll probably be fired or they might settle with you.”
Although many shared that same sentiment, one commenter claimed, “Unfortunately Amazon drivers are 3rd party hires exactly for this reason.. Amazon does not want to be held liable for anything that happens outside of their warehouses so they’re all outsourced.”
As of the man’s latest update on TikTok, he said he had reached out to Amazon customer service and was still waiting to hear whether any action had been taken.
