Former President Barack Obama is yet to offer his endorsement to Kamala Harris following Biden’s exit from the presidential race. On Sunday, the President of the United States announced his decision to quit his re-election bid, leaving the Democratic presidential candidate seat vacant. He proceeded to endorse Harris as his replacement, doubling down on his stance during his presidential address on Wednesday from the White House Oval Office.
Like Biden, various high-profile democrats have endorsed Kamala Harris since the announcement, boosting her odds of emerging as the Democratic presidential candidate. However, Barack Obama seems reluctant to take a stand, coyly avoiding any public mention of the VP amid incessant probes despite commending Joe Biden’s move to stand down.
Barack Obama Sparks Tension With Delayed Kamala Harris Endorsement
Following Biden’s White House address on Wednesday, July 25, Barack Obama turned to X, formerly Twitter to praise the POTUS, thanking him for “a lifetime of service.” In the post acknowledging the president’s move “to save democracy,” by exiting the race, the former POTUS wrote,
“‘The Sacred cause of this country is larger than any one of us.’ Joe Biden has stayed true to these words again and again over a lifetime of service to the American people. Thank you, @POTUS.”
The tweet, which has garnered over 40 million views and three hundred thousand reactions stirred an online frenzy, as enraged democrats slammed Barack Obama’s delayed Kamala Harris endorsement, even as others frowned upon it. American journalist Brian Krassenstein led the campaign, with a two-edged comment probing Barack while taking a dig at Donald Trump and the Republicans. He wrote,
“Looking forward to your endorsement of Kamala Harris. We can make sure Trump doesn’t get elected again.”
American commentator and TV host Tomi Lahren wrote,
“Still no endorsement of Kamal or Operation Coconut Tree?”
Another X user reacted,
“You aren’t endorsing Kamala? Hilarious!”
Another wrote,
“Have you already endorsed Kamala? I really hope so. We on Joe’s campaign switched straight over. And we are giving heart and soul.”
A fifth fired,
“Time to follow up with a Kamala Harris endorsement. You’re the only one left.”
Another fed-up Democrat chimed in,
“I voted for you both in 2008 and 2012. The first time as a Republican and the second time as a Democrat. Joe passed the torch to one bad-ass woman. With all due respect sir, I think it’s time for you to publicly endorse her.”
Another added,
“Don’t be silent too long! We all need you and Michelle to back our new candidate!”
Why The Former POTUS won’t Endorse VP Harris
While the former POTUS is yet to react to the outrage or take a stand for his preferred candidate, sources have weighed in on the possible reasons for his silence. Speaking to The New York Times, one insider claimed Barack Obama withheld his Kamala Harris Endorsement so far because “he knows she can’t win.”
