While many of us have loved all the support Ubisoft has given Rainbow Six Siege, it’s normal to crave a new experience that moves away from the competitive landscape. Well, that’s exactly what the studio just revealed. Rainbow Six Tactics is the next installment in the famous shooter franchise, but it is doing things differently, as it will be a completely single-player experience that will mix turn-based tactics with many iconic systems from the Rainbow Six universe.
Rainbow Six Tactics Is the Single-Player Comeback the Series Needed
While Rainbow Six Siege has been going for 11 years, it is time for it to share the spotlight with another installment, and that will be Rainbow Six Tactics. Instead of taking us on another PvP experience, Tactics will be a single-player installment, which is something fans have been asking for since Vegas.
In Rainbow Six Tactics, you’ll take the role of Six, as you lead a group of around 15 Operators from the series and send them to stop threats all around the globe. Instead of first-person shooter mechanics, missions will involve turn-based mechanics, with you controlling up to four operators as you try to complete different sets of objectives. However, there’s much more to that, as Tactics is bringing familiar mechanics from the series to this new strategic layer.
For instance, the biggest addition is the Breach mechanic, which is a staple of the franchise and will play a vital role here. After giving all your Operators an order, you can start the Breaching process and have all of them execute their actions in real time, as they break down walls to enter a building or disable enemies in quick succession. Of course, this system will include the wall-exploding antics from the series, so veterans will feel right at home.
On top of that, Rainbow Six Tactics aims to make every character unique, with each one having a different skill tree and abilities, which means you might be able to build different teams, each suitable for specific situations.
As for a release date, there isn’t one yet, but we know Ubisoft is hard at work on it, and you can already wishlist the title to track updates. Furthermore, Rainbow Six Tactics will launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, as well as GeForce Now, Blacknut, and Ubisoft+.
