Rebecca Minkoff has opened up about her relationship with convicted rapist Danny Masterson. Minkoff has recently joined the cast of The Real Housewives of New York and was asked about her connection to Masterson on a podcast. The fashion designer took the opportunity to set the record straight.
Rebecca Minkoff Describes Danny Masterson as ‘Incredibly Supportive’
On the Sunday episode of the “T Ts in a Pod” podcast, Rebecca Minkoff spoke about meeting Danny Masterson 10 years ago. The hosts Teddi Mellencampย andย Tamra Judge wanted to know how Minkoff was connected to Masterson. They focused on the fact that Minkoff and Masterson both identified as Scientologists.
Minkoff was eager to set the record straight. She said, “I haven’t seen or spoken to Danny in over 10 years. When I started out, he was incredibly supportive to me. I knew no one.”
At the beginning of her career, Rebecca Minkoff said that the That 70’s Show star also introduced her to “girls and actresses that were excited to wear my product.”ย
On top of that, the two shared beliefs. Both Rebecca Minkoff and Danny Masterson belonged to the church of Scientology, something Minkoff has been open about throughout her career. The fashion designer said that people are often confused about her beliefs because she identifies as a Scientologist and Jewish.
“I think thereโs a lot of confusion when people hear the word โreligionโ โ immediately you hear that I pray to L. Ron Hubbard,โ she previously told The New York Times. โI study it, I take classes and thatโs the extent of it, and itโs helped me stay centered. I donโt have all the answers. When I needed someone, it was a place for me to go get some answers.”
Minkoff’s Thoughts on Masterson’s Crimes
When it comes to Danny Masterson’s crimes, Minkoff acknowledged that she doesn’t know anything about what happened. She only knew the Masterson she met 10+ years ago. “And that’s all I can say. I didn’t participate in the case. I don’t have details,” she concluded.
For those not up to date with what Rebecca Minkoff was referring to, Danny Masterson was charged with forcibly raping three women between 2001 and 2003. At the time of the incidents, he and the three women were part of the Scientology church. In January 2021, he pleaded not guilty.
After a lengthy trial, Masterson was found to be guilty of two counts of rape. The third count resulted in a hung jury, meaning that Masterson wasn’t able to be charged. In September 2023, he received a sentence of 30 years to life in prison.
Many Hollywood A-listers like Ashton Kutcher rushed to write letters of support for Masterson, asking the judge to reduce his sentence. While Rebecca Minkoff wasn’t one of them, she continues to remember Masterson as a supportive friend during her early days in fashion.
