Redditors are Now Banning X/Twitter Links After Elon Musk’s ‘Nazi Salute’

Elon Musk‘s actions at Donald Trump’s Inauguration Parade have drawn much attention and worry both offline and online. Speaking of the impact of Musk’s actions in the online space, several subreddits or Reddit forums have voted or imposed a ban on any X/Twitter links. Redditors have cited X/Twitter as a hateful website and denounced its owner, Elon Musk, for his most recent actions, most particularly the supposed “Nazi salute” at the Trump parade.

It’s worth noting that not all Redditors are in favor of banning X/Twitter links. Each subreddit tends to undergo a voting process on whether they’re going to ban X/Twitter links and imposing the mandate usually falls on the moderators.

Some subreddits, however, like r/PCGaming, have already imposed the X/Twitter link ban with a near-unanimous agreement from the whole subreddit in the form of upvotes. r/PCGaming’s moderators have even blacklisted “x.com” and have reportedly been contemplating the decision for quite a while.

However, content from X/Twitter is still allowed, but only in the form of screenshots as an exception.

“X has become increasingly hateful, toxic and less and less moderated. This has, in turn, made us less comfortable with letting our subreddit link it to other people. Not to mention the distasteful things Elon Musk has done recently…” explains r/PCGaming moderators.

Meanwhile, other subreddits are still in the voting and consideration process, though many already favor banning X/Twitter links over those who oppose it.

Some have initiated the process already by posting on whether they should ban X/Twitter links and such posts have received a mass of upvotes. According to Mashable, sports subreddits are even leading the charge in banning links from Musk’s website.

As for Musk himself, the billionaire and tech mogul has actually responded to those criticizing his supposed “Nazi salute”. Musk has denied his action and dismissed the “salute” as some kind of hoax or character attack. Experts and fascism historians, however, have chimed in on the matter and stated that what Musk did was most certainly an enthusiastic “Nazi salute.”
