Via Global News Wire, Remedy Entertainment has regained the publishing rights to Alan Wake from Microsoft Studios. Alan Wake released as an Xbox 360 exclusive back in 2010. A follow up was scheduled to come out for a 2012 release window but never came out. This sequel was to be a big push for the Microsoft Windows store. As of now, there is nothing announced by the team behind Alan Wake.
Alan Wake is a thriller video game set in the world of the best selling author trying to solve his own wife’s disappearance. He gets lost trying to find her in the woods and has only light enabled devices to fight the creatures in the woods. The story he created for his bestseller comes to life as he continues his search for his beloved wife.
The game played itself out much like a book. There are chapters and cliffhangers leaving players wanting more. There are elements used by best selling authors of real life in the game as well. The game received much praise when it was released. The storytelling of the game was remarkable. The characters in Alan Wake are solid and similar to their issues and problems that many players face every day. Remedy Entertainment issued back when a possible sequel was announced that they would love to make one. That was scrapped due to Microsoft wanting exclusive IP titles instead of continuing sequels of already established titles. There was no chance for Remedy to port the game to another console either as Microsoft had the publishing rights for the game at that time.
With publishing rights now in the hands of Remedy again, a possible remaster or a port may happen. There have already been talks about a possible PlayStation port in the future.
What are your thoughts on this news? Are you hoping for an Alan Wake sequel? Or were not a fan of the original game?
