‘Republicans Are Turning Texas Vegan’: Texans Fume as High Beef Prices Force BBQ Joint to Pull Brisket

Inflation is currently rising in America, and it’s affecting even the barbecue Texans consume. A popular BBQ joint called Butter’s BBQ was the latest victim of these changes, as the restaurant decided to take brisket off the everyday menu. The decision made Texas residents worried about the future and angry with the current Republican administration.

As reported by KRIS 6, the spot, which was featured in The Texas Monthly Top 50, decided to remove the popular brisket from its everyday meals, as the meat has become too expensive to keep serving regularly.

The outlet interviewed owner Andrew Soto, who complained about the rising prices of beef in Texas. According to him, brisket was eating up 70% of the entire grocery budget. Increasing prices directly affected the number of sales that the business was making, so instead of serving less food, Butter’s BBQ opted to remove the pricey item from the menu, a decision that will likely draw the ire of a few customers.

With this change, brisket will still be available, but only by pre-order (two-pound minimum), and beef cheek will be the new main dish.

Texans React to High Beef Prices

The case of Butter’s BBQ was seen by r/Texas users as emblematic of the inflation issues suffered by Texans, and most blamed the GOP for them. One user said: “Republicans have effectively pulled brisket from Texas BBQ. Thanks a lot.” Someone else said, bitterly: “Republicans are turning Texas vegan.”

To many, the rhetoric that the economy has improved seemed false: “Everything is so GREAT now!” someone said sarcastically. Others asked: “Is this owning the libs?”

Other people were also concerned that this was affecting other products: “It’s not just beef. My favorite catfish joint recently raised all their prices. It’s costs over $20 for a catfish dinner with 3 pieces of catfish, fries, and hush puppies.”

It also seems that businesses could be affected by these decisions, as more people start eating at home, as exemplified by this user: “Solution is to smoke your own brisket. At these prices, purchasing your own smoker would pay for itself pretty quickly.”

As inflation continues to rise, so do the tactics Texans use to save money, and the future of brisket in Texas could be in jeopardy if things don’t change soon.
