One of the biggest stories in the gaming industry of 2024 has been Helldivers 2 requiring Steam users to link their account to a PlayStation Network account. This decision caused a major backlash in the community, and many players on Steam are looking to request a refund for their copy of Helldivers 2. While the controversy has settled down since Sony announced the account-linking requirement wouldn’t be going forward, some players might still be interested in leaving Helldivers 2 behind for good. Fortunately, as a result of the controversy, Steam is allowing any player to refund their copy of the game. If you’re one of those players, check out the guide below to see how the Steam refund process works.
How To Get a Refund for Helldivers 2 on Steam
Fortunately for all gamers, Steam has lifted all refund requirements for Helldivers 2 specifically. Usually, on Steam, you can’t get a refund if you have played a game for more than two hours or owned it for a certain period of time. If you want to request a refund for Helldivers 2, Steam is allowing you to do so with zero questions asked.
Below, you can follow the steps to receive a full refund for the game:
- Open the Steam app and click on the “Help” tab at the top of the page.
- Select “Steam Support” and scroll down until you see “Purchase.” Click on this box and find your purchase of Helldivers 2.
- Select the purchase box for Helldivers 2 and then press “I would like a refund.”
- Select “I’d like to request a refund” on the next page and then choose how you would like the refund to be returned to you (either back to your initial payment method or into your Steam Wallet).
- You can provide a short message as to why you are refunding Helldivers 2, and then press submit. Your refund will be processed following that and the money should be returned to you in a few business days.
The entire process of requesting a refund for Helldivers 2 should only take a few minutes. However, one stipulation with a refund is you can only request one if you directly purchased the game on Steam. If you used a Steam Key that you received from a third-party distributor, you can’t request a refund. Such third-party sources include game key sites or a free key you received via a promotion or giveaway. If you purchased the game through Steam, though, your refund should immediately go through.
