Riot Games, the team behind the widely successful League of Legends and Valorant, has acquired Hypixel Studios. The acquisition looks to be leaving Hypixel Studios as independent, merely gaining resources and expertise from the team at Riot Games. Hypixel Studios are known for their popular Minecraft server along with the upcoming Hytale video game. The teams at Riot Games and Hypixel Studios went to their social media to announce the news.
“We’ll continue to operate in the same way as we have before, but Riot will become our parent company and we’ll gain access to their expertise and resources,” says Simon, founder of Hypixel Studios. “This has been an amazing journey, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Hytale!”. Overall, Hypixel Studios promises this acquisition is just a partnership, and will not affect the game or the server. If this is true, then the partnership is one that players should be excited about too. Having the expertise of Riot to assist the developers should be significant for the game’s quality, even if they aren’t contributing directly.
Simon will be stepping back as CEO of Hypixel Studios and will be replaced by Noxy. Noxy was previously the project lead on their upcoming project Hytale along with COO of Hypixel Inc. Simon will be an advisory role on Hytale as he wants to focus on other things in his life. “I’ll be focusing my future efforts on my health, family, and the Hypixel Minecraft server where it all started”. Both look very hopeful for the future of both the server and Hytale itself, and everything looks like it might just be ok.
