We already know that Rockstar has an excellent track record of taking its sweet time to bring its games to PC. Remember when we had to wait three years to play GTAV on PC while we watched console players have fun like in that one Squidward meme? Well, after nearly 15 years, we’ll be getting Red Dead Redemption on PC, all because of a leak that Rockstar made.
Players who opened the Rockstar launcher today noticed something interesting in its code: metadata for Red Dead Redemption’s PC version. The information comes from @TezFunz2 on Twitter, who posted about the leak and the game’s corresponding SteamDB page. Although Red Dead Redemption PC had previously had a leak, it’s never received an official App ID on the Steam platform. This leak might be the big one.
For context, SteamDB is a database of everything available on the Steam platform, providing users with even better insight than going to the client. Despite the app being available on the SteamDB platform, it’s hidden from the public because of the lack of information available. Moreover, the leak has resulted in several Reddit conversations concerning Rockstar’s refusal to acknowledge previous ones.
While many fans are rightfully upset, others are trying to make light of the situation. Users joked that Rockstar is merely waiting for the release of the PC 2. At this point, with how Rockstar handles anything they release on the platform, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the excuse they make when people ask about the GTA6 PC launch. But, knowing me, I’ll say that as a joke and then go out of my way to purchase a PC 2 just to play Red Dead Redemption if it was reality.
Hopefully, we will hear more news about the game from the developer itself in the coming months because, like this user states:
