Ruined King: A League of Legends Story

League of Legends has long stood as one of the highest played PC games ever, garnering severe acclaim and a passionate player base. For a long time though, the game’s universe was restricted to the one game itself. Recently though, that fact changed and we saw the introduction of games like Teamfight Tactics and Legends of Runeterra. In terms of full, new lore focused titles though, there hasn’t been any Riot supported title in the works. That is, until now. At today’s Worlds 2020 competition, Riot Games unveiled the first game from their publishing firm Riot Forge. Ruined King: A League of Legends Story releases in early 2021. You can check out the stunning announcement trailer below.

Ruined King is a turn-based RPG following the story of various characters in the League of Legends lore. Several characters of Bilgewater such as Miss Fortune, Illaoi, and Pyke are all ready to face the next threat. Joining them though is Braum of the Freljord (how did he get to Bilgewater?), Ahri, and Yasuo. You may recall from Yone’s reveal cinematic that Yasuo and Ahri were on their way to Bilgewater. I guess this would be why. All of them have one goal in mind, to take down the Ruined King and stop the Black Mist.

For those less aware of the lore, the Ruined King was the King of the Blessed Isles, a region of Runeterra. Following severe corruption though, these isles became the Shadow Isles and corrupted many of their inhabitants. That’s why you see ghastly beings as League of Legends champions such as Hecarim, Kalista, Thresh, and Karthus. He rules over the region, which is also covered in Black Mist. This Black Mist is the reason Lucian originally lost his wife Senna before she made a return.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how Ruined King dives further into each of these characters. Ruined King releases early next year on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
