It’s been a while since a new Grand Theft Auto release, disregarding the remastered GTA V from Rockstar Games. It’s a much slower pace from when multiple new GTA titles would be released per generation. Perhaps this is because Rockstar Games has been altering the way they approach to game development. Releasing fewer games that have more content. Quality over quantity, if you will. Six years have passed since the first GTA V was released, which is quite a jump between franchise games. But according to a rumored leak, the sixth title will be coming soon.
A European developer has reportedly leaked information concerning GTA VI’s release. It supposed to come out in 2020 during the holiday season. And it will possibly release first on PlayStation, competitor Xbox not receiving the title until a month later. It’s also rumored the game will take place in Miami and New York City.
Of course, there is not much credit that can be given to anonymous leaks, especially when a prior rumor suggested the release to be in 2022 and that South America would be the game’s location. Given that Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 recently released, a one-year turnaround is fairly quick for a new major franchise title. The PlayStation one month exclusivity also seems dubious, but Sony is rumored to be partnering with Take-Two Interactive to secure this.
With the release of large games, there is always a great deal of hype and rumors circulating about the details. Needless to say, it has been a while since the last game release, and fans will be eager to see if the content is worth the wait. Perhaps, instead, with the success of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games is shifting its focus. The gaming industry as a whole continues to get more competitive, and more daring and exciting games are released per year.
