The studio behind Torchlight and Torchlight II, Runic Games have released details about there new game title ‘Hob’
There first two games where heavily inspired and influenced by Diablo, that comes as no surprise when Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer was an executive producer on Diablo and Diablo II.
Torchlight was a runaway success, worked on by 14 people and finished in 11 months it ended up being ported to the Xbox 360 and sold 2 million copies in the process, this is when I first fell in love with Runic Games.
Their second game surprisingly titled Torchlight II added some more depth to the game, Co-op game play, online multiplayer, more story and dialogue and an all round grander and well polished experience.
What next? Torchlight III?
Nothing like Torchlight III, this game won’t be a hack and slash dungeon crawler, No more collecting rare loot and upgrading aspects of your armour until your a hardened level 100 badass.
If your wondering, Yes. I’am level 100. 70 hours well spent, but this isn’t about my achievements in life, this is about a new IP coming to PC and Consoles titled ‘Hob’
Hob is Runic Games new creation, it’s baby. No longer relying on dialogue to tell you story this game has no NPC’S to help you out, it’s all about that sense of adventure and figuring it out for your self, sounds hard doesn’t it, a game that wants you to think, in a world drenched in twitch shooters, basic vocabulary consists of ”F**k you, I’m going to come round your house and kill you’ and something about ‘Teabags’ on your head.
But this game goes against the grain and offers to challenge the minds of players in what sounds like a ‘metroidvanian’ style progression system, upgrade abilities, unlocking new areas through out the map, rewarding you with more skills and polishing them till the challenges you face are mere child’s play.
In a announcement made by RunicGames they had this to say:
“We are excited to announce our new title “Hob”, an original IP for PC and console.
Hob is set on a beautiful and dangerous unknown world, with buzzing life above and the whirrs of mysterious machinery below. The more players delve into the world’s design, the more they uncover a planet in peril. Players must learn to survive, understand their true purpose through acquiring skills, and ultimately transform the nature of the world itself.
Hob is presented without text or dialogue. Narrative is revealed as players explore and interact with their mysterious planet, and the strange life forms that inhabit it. Hob features smooth controller gameplay, multi-layered puzzles, and striking visuals”
