Homeowners’ Associations can sometimes show the worst in people, especially when those running them get drunk on power. One HOA in Arizona is especially full of bad actors, accusing one homeowner of taking advantage of their elderly neighbor and reporting them to Adult Protective Services. However, the accusation is completely false and slander against the resident, whom the HOA has allegedly been harassing for years. On top of that, the members have now begun to abuse the elderly neighbor in the report. A truly messed-up situation.
Taking to Reddit to vent their predicament, the homeowner’s partner explained how they’ve been cooking, cleaning, shopping, and doing repairs for the grandma next door for years at no cost. They claim the granny has been almost like family to them, even allowing them to use her shower when the HOA tore out their home’s shower and never properly rebuilt it. As for the APS report, the HOA didn’t take action until the homeowner’s attorney made an initial records request, as they likely saw it as a hostile move against them.
But the false claim wasn’t enough for them; to further spread their misery, members of the HOA partially moved into the elderly neighbor’s home and have begun abusing her. It started with isolating the grandma from her friends, then stopped allowing her to speak with anyone except through them. Now, the HOA is throwing away the granny’s belongings, while she’s helpless to defend herself. OP said that when they approached the neighbor to make sense of the HOA’s actions, she replied, “If they actually cared about me or were really concerned, they would have come over to check on me. They didn’t do that.”
“Our HOA is ruthless ๐,” was the sad concluding statement on their post, but OP and their partner aren’t going down without a fight. Their attorney informed them that the HOA’s attorney had contacted them, requesting an extension on the initial records request. This happened on the same day that the false report was made to Adult Protective Services. “Sounds like the HoA is doing a good job of building a case. Your case!” a Redditor remarks with hope. “Totally need to add slander to the charges against them if it isnโt already,” added another.
Other people in OP’s comment section shared their horror stories and vexing experiences with their HOAs as well, with one claiming theirs sent a convicted felon to stalk them. “Sad what HOA karens do,” remarked a user. Hopefully, OP and their partner, along with the grandma neighbor as a possible witness, sue the HOA out of existence. Or at the very least, get the members who harassed and falsely accused them into legal trouble.
