Alexandra Daddario & Dwayne Johnson in San Andreas
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information.

San Andreas is set to rock to the box office this weekend as the movie is tracking around $40 million for the disaster movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the title role. The film brought in $3.1 million from late night shows last night and should be the top movie this weekend. Cameron Crowe’s Aloha is also opening this weekend though should open around $10 million.

Dwayne Johnson, the title character for San Andreas has continued to rise in fame and has been able to bring in the fans as a leading actor. The last couple years has seen Dwayne Johnson appear in the Fast & Furious franchise. He has also stared as the title character in 2013’s Snitch which opened to $13.1m and last years Hercules which opened to $29.8 million. He is also set to star in HBO’s Ballers series this summer. He is one of Hollywoods biggest actors, literally. The movie should also garner in viewers as last week Tomorrowland released with mixed reception which should allow San Andreas to reach at least $40 million for its opening.

Aloha is Cameron Crowe’s latest romantic comedy. and should open with around $10 million. The movie features a stellar cast including Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams and more. Unfortunately the movie will hurt from its poor reviews as it current has an 18% ranking on Rotten Tomatoes.

For the rest of the box office, Mad Max: Fury Road, Pitch Perfect 2 and Tomorrowland will fight for the next three spots. Mad Max: Fury Road should be able beat out the rest and take the number two spot as the movie continues to be praised critically and since Tuesday the movie has managed to be the top grossing movie for each day. Mad Max: Fury Road should bring in around $17 million which will bring its total to $120 million.

Pitch Perfect 2 should bring in around $17 million as well which would bring its total to $150 million. Tomorrowland should take a big hit this weekend though will bring in around $16.5 million for a domestic total of $66 million by Sunday.

Lastly, Avengers: Age of Ultron will be able to stick it out in the Top 5 for another weekend as the movie is tracking $12 million.

Check out tomorrow, for our box office breakdown of Fridays box office take.

3. Pitch Perfect 2 – $17 million
4. Tomorrowland – $16.6 million
