Paramount Plus has renewed young adult favorite School Spirits for season 2. The streaming service had been quiet about the Peyton List-led series’ future as the finale was released on April 13. Now, fans can let out a sigh of relief as the show will return. No window has been set for when we can expect its release. Production will begin in 2024.
School Spirits will see what’s next for Maddie (List) in season 2 after the debut season’s dramatic cliffhanger. The story follows Maddie, a teenager in high school purgatory after being murdered. She goes on a quest to balance attending her afterlife school and investigating what happened to her that landed her in a supernatural school rather than one for the living.
School Spirits Renewed for Season 2 at Paramount Plus
Nate and Megan Trinrud created the series. It is based on their graphic novel of the same name that was made in collaboration with illustrator Maria Nguyen. The adaption is in large part of a goal of Paramount’s to deliver young adult stories, like with Wolf Pack, the revival of iCarly, and Zoey 102, the movie that will serve as a sequel to Zoey 101. The creators of the show write and executive produce. Oliver Goldstick (Pretty Little Liars) serves as the showrunner.
List leads the series with co-stars Kristian Ventura (Reboot), Mila Manheim (Doogie Kamealoha M.D.), Spencer Macpherson (American Gods), Kiara Pichardo (The Society), Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Nick Pugliese (Dramarama), and Rainbow Wedell (The Bureau of Magical Things). They are all expected to return for season 2 of School Spirits.
School Spirits season 2 has a bar to meet after the first season’s positive reception. On Rotten Tomatoes, the critic score is 83%, with a higher audience score of 93%. The coming-of-age story mixed with List’s performance led it to success, with viewers ready to see how the story will continue.
