Of all the upcoming Marvel phase 3 movies currently in production, Dr Strangelove Strange is probably the one we know the least about. It’s also one of the most exciting to look forward to; not least because the starring role is being filled by none other Benedict Cumberbatch.
and now, The Wrap is reporting that renowned martial artist Scott Adkins will be appearing in Cumberbatch’s shadow in Doctor Strange’s first cinematic outing;
‘Martial artist Scott Adkins has joined the cast of Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.’
While this may be Stephen Strange’s first time on the silver screen, Scott Adkins has been in plenty of other movies. His past appearances include ‘The Bourne Ultimatum,’ ‘The Expendables 2’ and ‘Zero Dark Thirty’. He’s also set to appear in spy comedy, ‘The Brothers Grimsby’.
So far, there is no information on what role Adkins will be playing though The Wrap asserts that ‘insiders’ says that he will have several close combat scenes. Of course, that could be less inside knowledge and more safe speculation given that Adkins is a martial artist famous for this kind of role.
Scott Adkins’ casting is one of only a few tidbits of information we have about Marvel’s magic focused movie, which is still just under a year away from release.
We do know that Cumberbatch’s portrayal of Strange is that of a gifted neurosurgeon who discovers the world of magic and alternate dimensions after suffering a horrific car accident. The film is being produced by Kevin Faige and the scriptwriter is John Spaihts.
It is worth noting that, at the time of writing, Marvel has yet to comment on this.
