Scream series veteran Courteney Cox is taking her self-appointed role as the “mother hen” on set very seriously – according to her co-stars, at least.
In a recent interview, Scream VI stars Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Goodling – who star as Sam Carpenter, Tara Carpenter, Mindy Meeks-Martin, and Chad Meeks-Martin, respectively – had only good things to say about Courteney Cox, who makes her sixth appearance as Gale Weathers in Scream VI after originating the role in the original Scream (1996). According to her younger co-stars, Cox provides a “nurturing” presence on the set of the film and is “one of the sweetest people in the business.”
“She’s Courteney Cox and sometimes, you know how they say never meet your heroes? She is the exception to that rule,” Melissa Barrera, 32, shared with PEOPLE Magazine. “She’s even better than you would think. She’s more lovable and funnier and more generous. And she was like a mama hen that would want us to all hang out and cook for us and facilitate this time.”
‘Scream VI’ Cast on Getting to Know Courtney Cox
Jasmin Savoy Brown, who previously starred alongside Cox in 2022’s Scream, shared that it’s “nice to get to know [Courteney] a little bit more intimately and personally” even after concluding their first film together last year and added that Cox regularly “checks in” with her fellow castmates, offering life advice wherever needed. Mason Goodling. 26, attributed some of the cast’s closeness to the ability to get to know one another at dinner parties during the making of Scream VI and stated that the parties were “a really nice way of breaking down the wall that maybe comes from meeting a new cast of people.”

In terms of cast members, Scream VI will mark the first time Courteney Cox returns without Neve Campbell, who originated the role of Sidney Prescott but reportedly made the difficult decision not to return for her sixth Scream film due to negotiation issues with the studio executives involved in the making of the film.
