Several news outlets reported that days ago, Lizzy Savetsky left RHONY due to anti-semitic comments against her and her family. However, new evidence has come to light that RHONY‘s Lizzy Savetsky left after off-camera controversies. Get the details below.
RHONY’s Lizzy Savetsky Said She Left Because Of Antisemitic Comments
RHONY‘s Lizzy Savetsky left the show long before she finished filming her first season. The Real Housewives of New York City recently launched its revamped, racially diverse version of the series to encourage inclusivity.
Reports then emerged that one of the new stars introduced into the Bravo series, Lizzy Savetsky left RHONY. The TV personality later claimed that she left because of a wave of antisemitic attacks.
“From the time [it was announced she was joining the cast],” she said, “I was on the receiving end of a torrent of [anti-Semitic] attacks. As this continued, I realized that this path was no longer right for me and my family.”
It turned out that things went south while Lizzy was filming a scene with co-star Brynn Whitfield and got worse.
Brynn reportedly asked Lizzy, an Orthodox Jew and reputed matchmaker, if she’d set her up with a Jewish man. Sources said Lizzy declined, saying although she has no problem with Jews dating gentiles, she prefers only to set up Jews with other Jews.
The Bravo star said Orthodox Jews favor marriages between Jews to preserve the ethnic lineage. She explained that Judaism is a belief system and a people.
Insiders reported that Brynn felt affronted and accused Lizzy of using terminology like that used by “horrific people [meaning Nazis] who did evil things to your people,” which shocked her co-star.
The tension caused in that scene made Lizzy call Brynn off-camera to discuss the power of racial slurs. Sources mentioned that Brynn, who is half-Black, used the N-word during the call. However, rather than using the term “N-word,” she said the word it represents in full.
Lizzy Savetsky left RHONY Because Of The N-Word Controversy
Page Six reports that Lizzy got the impression that Brynn planned to tell other cast members that Lizzy also used the N-word during the call. Sources reported that Lizzy’s husband, Dr. Ira Savetsky, was outraged and reported the alleged incident to the show’s producers.
Insider reports indicate that she left the show after her husband repeated the N-word on set while recounting a discussion. Sources claim that he apologized, but the damage was done. According to sources, conversations about the pair exiting the show began around that time.
However, insiders were keen to point out that Lizzy did also experience an overwhelming volume of anti-Semitism online. They also stated that the N-word incident alone was not the sole reason for her leaving the show.
Ironically, Bravo’s intention to minimize racism did more damage to the show. Hopefully, producers will learn from it and implement better measures.
