Selena Gomez‘s fans seemed on the fence about her Cannes Film Festival daywear look earlier this month. On May 17, the 31-year-old singer and actress arrived at the swanky French resort, and she’d dressed to impress.
Rocking a flirty, rib-knitted peplum minidress from designer Self-Portrait, Selena channeled old-school Chanel energy in her frill-hemmed look, going angelic in white and adding in white-rimmed retro shades. Users seeing the images on Just Jared‘s Instagram, however, were quick to give Selena and her outfit the thumb-down. The ex to Justin Bieber was even told that she had entered her “granny era,” and more than one user used the word.
Selena Gomez Turns Heads With Cannes Arrival
Rocking a two-piece-effect look that is actually a dress, Selena flaunted her curvy figure in the preppy number, which retails for $495. Going high-end, but not JLo-level, the Only Murders in the Building actress showcased her hourglass waistline in a cardigan-like top with long sleeves and chic gold button detailing, with her leggy matching miniskirt flashing her toned legs.
Keeping girly with bell sleeves as she accessorized her look with white heels and a matching purse, Selena stunned in her ultra-stylish outfit, however some were of the opinion that it was making her look much older than she is.
In a caption, Just Jared wrote: “Selena Gomez has touched down in France for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival! The hitmaker showed off her natural beauty in a stunning white @mrselfportrait outfit while grabbing a bite to eat and doing some shopping in Cannes today.”
Fans Say It’s Giving ‘Granny’
While one fan called Gomez “too cute” and likened her to an “angel,” others weren’t so kind.
“Fire the stylist,” one replied. Another said that Selena “looks like a rich granny.” Offering up similar thoughts, a third wrote: “Why’s she dressed like an Auntie in that ill-fitting getup…so irritating.” Over 300 users liked a comment reading: “In her granny era.”
Selena’s outfits have been garnering mixed reviews over the past weeks, with many feeling that the singer’s stylist hates her. Selena has since wowed in a custom-made red Giambattista Valli gown, but here too, she was critiqued as fans felt that she is too “young” for that kind of dress.
Selena has proven a massive hit at the Cannes Film Festival. She’s just won Best Actress for the Emilia Pérez movie she stars in. The musical crime comedy also stars Karla Sofia Gascón, Adriana Paz, and Zoe Saldaña.
