A family in California was reportedly caught on camera taking a woman’s purse at a restaurant while their children were with them.
The owner of the purse said the incident occurred at The Boiling Crab in San Jose. She stated that she was asked to move to a smaller table so the family could be seated. During the relocation, she left her purse behind. Surveillance footage later showed what happened to the purse afterward.
In the video shared, as the family began to sit, one of them appeared to notice the purse. Instead of returning it to its owner, she placed it on her lap. She then signaled to another woman seated across from her that she had the purse. The purse was then allegedly passed to the second woman, who placed it inside her backpack. The incident occurred while children were present with the group.
After the woman concealed the purse inside her backpack, she was seen leaving the restaurant with it. The footage then showed a man from the group appearing to look around, seemingly checking for surveillance cameras near them.
In her post, the owner of the purse provided additional details about the situation. She stated that the purse contained approximately $4000 or more in cash and valuables. It also included her identification, credit cards, debit cards, and business cards. “This money was intended for rent, utilities, and other bills, making this loss especially devastating at the end of the month,” she wrote. She also asked internet users for help identifying the family.
The owner later shared screenshots of a conversation with one of the family members, in which he appeared to show “no remorse.” In the conversation, the family member wrote, “Next time tell her don’t leave her [expletive] behind and ask her if any of her cards were used.” The response further intensified outrage online.
Viewers Criticize California Family Caught Stealing
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers criticized the California family over the incident and the fact that it occurred in front of their children. “No decency. Some people really shouldn’t become parents..,” one person wrote. Another person said, “What shining examples of humanity these scumbags are, I feel badly for the children.”
More viewers expressed outrage, with some suggesting the family may have engaged in similar behavior previously, though these claims remain unverified. “grand theft. With the children present. With pre-organized method of how to steal with the children present and no words exchanged. This is a strategy they have used before and will use again. Imo, career criminal already, if not yet. Great job posting this! I’m really hoping OP filed a police report, I’m certain they must have,” one person wrote.
The video prompted discussion online regarding concerns about some families’ behavior in front of their children and the potential impact such actions may have. It also led to broader conversations about the role of surveillance cameras in documenting incidents and helping establish accountability.
