Deep Silver has revealed details on their first DLC for Shenmue III as well as new playable characters.

Shenmue III is a sequel to the cult classic, Shenmue II, a game that was released 18 years ago. It is an open-world brawler littered with quick-time events and side activities. The plot concerns Ryo Hazuki searching for his father’s killer, and he experiences some hiccups along the way, of course. For the first time in history, though, a Shenmue game will be receiving DLC.

The Battle Rally DLC is a new adventure that involves Ryo Hazuki racing against other NPCs, with battles and surprises accentuating the experience.  Finishing first in a race nets the player bigger rewards. You can also gain access to even more items by searching for the new mascot, Bailu-chan, during the race.

However, Shenmue III’s Battle Rally DLC marks a series first as players will be able to control other characters. In addition to controlling Ryo, players can play as treasure hound Wuying Ren and Ryo’s sparring partner Wei Zhen, who is making her first appearance in Shenmue III.

The Battle Rally DLC releases on January 21, 2020. It will be available on the PlayStation Store and Epic Games Store for $7.99. Players who purchased the Complete DLC Collection will automatically receive the DLC.

If you feel the need to catch up on the series, both Shenmue I and II were re-released in August 2019, although the developer was not happy with the release. In addition to being released on PlayStation 4, the first two titles in the series can be picked up for Xbox One and PC via a variety of game stores.

Will you be getting Shenmue III’s Battle Rally DLC? Are you a fan of the series? Did you like the newest entry in the series? Let us know in the comments below!
