Your choices can lead to something good in the game or cause a total disaster. Once you meet Gandrel, killing him or not is one of the decisions you should think twice about in BG3. Killing him or letting him go has very different consequences. This guide will help you through what decision to take about Gandrel in Baldur’s Gate 3.
First Encounter with Gandrel in Baldur’s Gate 3
Gandrel is a vengeful Gur you encounter during the Pale Elven quest. When you first meet him, he will tell you about Astarion and that he is looking for him everywhere. Gandrel wants to capture and kill Astarion as he is a vampire who is the enemy of the Gur race. Since Astarion kidnapped many Gur children and plundered his village, Gandrel will not rest until he takes revenge on him.
Astarion may have his faults, but since he’s an ally and companion, it’s controversial whether to let Gandrel capture him or not. If you tell Gandrel where Astarion is, it will have consequences. On the other hand, if you kill Gandrel and protect Astarion, you will also face different results. Let’s see what the consequences of all decisions will be.
Killing Gandrel in Baldur’s Gate 3
If you choose to kill Gandrel, you will protect Astarion and prevent him from dying. This will earn you respect for Astarion and those close to him. Furthermore, upon fighting and defeating Gandrel, you’ll get some items. The most important item you will acquire is Gandrel’s Aspiration, a powerful weapon that will help immensely in the game. Besides, you’ll get a Dagger, Supply Pack, Leather and Light Armor, Arrow of Fire, Arrow of Acid, and 2 Heal Potions.
Telling Gandrel about Astarion’s Directions
If you choose to tell Gandrel about Astarion’s directions, he will eventually find him and get his revenge. This is actually not a very wholesome decision because it will cause the vampires in your party to not trust you anymore and leave you. They will not see you as their leader as they see your betrayal of one of them. It would be best if you didn’t decide Astarion’s fate.
