Although the news of a new Super Smash Bros character has been in the rumor mill since August, it looks like Nintendo might have preemptively released some interesting information about a possible new playable character.
Could it be Shovel Knight?
Back in August, NintendoLife released information from a trusted source, that they couldn’t name, that Shovel Knight could possibly be the next DLC character in the Super Smash Bros roster. NintendoLife leaked that Shovel Knight would be released with an accompanying amiibo before the announcement of the in-game character. Fast forward to October and it looks like these rumors might be coming true.

In a news report by MyNintendoNews, Shovel Knight is most definitely an upcoming amiibo for the holiday season. When you visit the Nintendo/amiibo page, Shovel Knight is shown in his full blue glory, waiting to shovel jump on the heads of enemies and anyone standing between him and Shield Knight. Shovel Knight is shown to be a compatible amiibo with SSB4.
It could have been an honest mistake on the part of Nintendo as they could’ve released information that is being taken out of context. Yet, when you go to the amiibo page for Shovel Knight the character text showcases some fighter like qualities
A practitioner of the ancient code of Shovelry, Shovel Knight can do almost anything with his signature weapon, the Shovel Blade. His ingenuity and quick thinking have won him many battles, even though his stature is small!
Could Shovel Knight play like Pikachu? Small and aggressive — using speed and cunning to outmaneuver his enemies, then crushing their heads with his shovel jump? Or possibly bouncing across the stage as he reigns bombs from on high, collecting gems for some sort of super smash? Only time will tell for the blue knight.
