Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts questioned Trump HHS deputy nominee Chris Klomp at a Senate Finance Committee hearing in Washington, D.C., over undisclosed pharmaceutical pricing deals. Warren pressed him to “show me the receipts” after he said the agreements had already saved billions in out-of-pocket costs. The exchange spread quickly online, with some users backing her demand for the contracts and others turning the phrase back on Warren.
In the clip, Warren says, “You and Secretary Kennedy are keeping these pharma deals secret,” adding that companies have called the agreements “immaterial”. At the same time, officials still want the public “to believe that they are somehow a really great deal.” Klomp answers, “Senator Warren, billions of dollars have already been saved in out-of-pocket transactions through GLP1.” Warren cuts in: “Show me the receipts. Why are you hiding these contracts?”
Klomp replies, “We’re not hiding anything,” and argues that sharing trade secrets or proprietary information could “compromise the government’s ability” to keep negotiating. Warren says HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. promised five months earlier to deliver the contracts and adds, “It’s been five months and we don’t have them. I would regard that as hidden.”
She asks whether companies received tariff relief, Medicare demonstration exemptions, or fast-track FDA approval, then says officials can “stop telling us it was all great for the American people” if they “refuse to show us the receipts.” The posted clip does not show the rest of the hearing or any released contracts.
According to reporting on the hearing, the dispute concerns “most favored nation” drug-pricing deals the administration has negotiated with more than two dozen companies. Klomp has said the resulting prices are listed on the TrumpRx website. Kennedy previously said he would make the deals available “except for proprietary information and trade secrets.” Those full contracts have not been made public, and the footage does not resolve that issue.
After ‘Show Me the Receipts,’ the Pushback Cuts Both Ways
Some users backed Warren’s demand for the documents, with one writing, “Elizabeth Warren will not put up with BS. Show her the receipts,” and another saying, “She’s not going to stop until she gets the information. Good for her.”
On Bluesky, one reply argued, “That should be every Democrat’s IMMEDIATE response to EVERY member of the GOP: SHOW ME THE RECEIPTS!!!”
A YouTube commenter added, “Go, Sen. Warren! Go!”
Others on X turned the phrase back on Warren. One commenter wrote, “Show us your receipts and your big pharma stock portfolio,” while another said, “You should know all about big pharm’s money; you took millions.”
A third replied, “This is coming from a bid recipient of big pharma.”
The fight over whether the administration will release the full drug-pricing contracts is still unresolved, and Tuesday’s exchange is likely to keep that oversight dispute in view as Klomp’s nomination moves forward.
