‘So Very Christian of Her’: South Carolina Dunks on Rep. Nancy Mace Calls After Calling For Lindsay Clancy’s Public Execution

South Carolina tells Mace: enough

Rep. Nancy Mace has called for Lindsay Clancy to be publicly executed as a warning to other women, and South Carolina locals online discussed the remarks and responded with something considerably less than applause.

Mace, a Republican congresswoman from South Carolina, said Clancy deserves the death penalty following the deaths of her three children in Massachusetts. She suggested methods including a firing squad and electric chair while arguing that a public execution would send a message against killing children.

“She killed her kids,” Mace said, according to ABC News 4. “She deserves nothing less.”

Clancy was charged with killing her three children in 2023. Her defense argued that she was not criminally responsible because of severe mental illness, including postpartum psychosis. Her trial ended in a mistrial on September 4 after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict. Reporting since the trial indicates 11 jurors favored finding her not guilty by reason of insanity, with one juror holding out.

That distinction became a major point of anger in the South Carolina Reddit discussion, where critics questioned why a sitting member of Congress was publicly demanding the execution of someone who has not been convicted.

‘So Very Christian of Her’

Over on the South Carolina subreddit, one of the thread’s simplest reactions cut directly at the rhetoric: “So very Christian of her.”

That comment triggered its own argument over biblical teachings, punishment, and whether Christianity supports capital punishment. Elsewhere, though, the tone was less theological and more exhausted.

“Nancy Mace wants attention,” one commenter wrote.

Another argued that Mace “should not be calling for citizen executions,” pointing specifically to due process and her position as a serving member of Congress.

Then came an even more concise sentiment: “Can we forget this woman?”

The thread was plainly hostile toward Mace, with numerous commenters essentially arguing that the congresswoman would be better served saying less rather than escalating an already horrific case into political spectacle. Some questioned why the conversation was focused on punishment instead of postpartum mental-health care, an issue that has become central to the wider Clancy debate.

That debate is not merely hypothetical. Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey has proposed expanding postpartum mental-health screening and support following the mistrial, including funding for home visits to families with newborns.

Mace, however, has doubled down on punishment, reportedly arguing that millions of mothers experience postpartum problems without killing their children.

Clancy’s case will continue through the courts, with her attorneys now seeking to prevent another trial. At least online, though, South Carolina locals appear to have had enough of Mace’s rhetoric over the matter.
