It looks like another Spider-Verse entry will be delayed. Sony has indefinitely delayed Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’s release date due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. This isn’t the first time a Spider-Verse entry has been postponed, as Across the Spider-Verse was intended to be released last year. It was recently released to massive success, and it ended on a cliffhanger that had audiences eager for the third movie. Unfortunately, it looks like they will be waiting longer. Sony isn’t just delaying Beyond the Spider-Verse. The SAG-AFTRA strike has also caused the studio to change the release dates for several projects, including ones that have finished shooting.
Beyond the Spider-Verse & More Delayed Due to SAG-AFTRA Strike
Along with Beyond the Spider-Verse, Sony is delaying Bad Boys 4 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The movie is now scheduled for release on June 14, 2024. The studio also set Venom 3’s release date to July 12, 2024. In addition, some movies that were just around the corner will see minor changes to their release dates. Grand Turismo was set for release on August 11 of this year. Now it will have a sneak preview that weekend and the weekend of August 18 before releasing on August 25.
Initially set for October 6, Kraven the Hunter has been significantly delayed to August 30, 2024. In addition, Sony is delaying the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel to March 29, 2024. Also, The Karate Kid reboot is moving from June 7, 2024, to December 13, 2024.
Beyond the Spider-Verse isn’t the only anticipated sequel delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Deadpool 3 had to pause production due to the strike. Several other film and TV projects have been delayed or paused output due to the strike. And, unfortunately, how long this strike will go on is uncertain. Succession star Brian Cox even told Sky News that it could go to the end of the year. If that’s the case, we’ve likely got plenty of other delayed release date announcements coming.
