It’s not easy being a human in the Underground. Everything from skeletons to flowers tries to kill you. Of course, you can give them a taste of their own medicine and kill them all first, but in Undertale, it’s also possible to buddy up with them instead. Plus, whatever you do in one save is reflected in the next run. That’s why there are two videos once again this week, one showcasing a genocide run, the other a pacifist route. Both are world records done by the same runner.

This is the genocide run. It takes a little over an hour to perform. As with many world record streamed runs, TGH’s splits are displayed in the video along with a chat stream at the bottom. Throughout the run, we will see him rapidly pressing up and down while moving against walls. This increases the encounter rate and is useful for getting rid of all the minor battles in each area. Genocide runs are not recommended for new players, as it radically alters certain plot elements. Also, beating Sans is a nightmare.

Undertale’s true pacifist ending is only unlocked after first completing the neutral route and adds quite a bit of time compared to the genocide run. For this route, absolutely no monsters, even the random encounters, can be killed. Spare, run, and peaceful battle-ending acts are fair game. In the video, it may seem like he kills Asgore, but watch to the ending and you will see otherwise.

Undertale rose to fame at an incredible speed, becoming easily one of the top games of 2015. The multiple endings and bullet hell-like battle mechanics, not to mention the colorful and quirky personalities of the monsters, adds up to a memorable experience players will want to return to more than once. Undertale is available on Steam.
