Not only will the famous wall-crawler return to the Silver Screen next year in Spider-Man: Homecoming but a Spider-Man animated movie will release in 2018.

The Spider-Man animated movie could be something completely new.
The Spider-Man animated movie could be something completely new.

The project is being written by Chris Miller and Phil Lorde, directors of 21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie, and the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars movie. Details are still scarce, but if rumors are to be believed the movie will focus on Miles Morales, the Hispanic and African American hero that take sup the Spider-Man mantle after the untimely death of Peter Parker.

While promoting their new TV series Son of Zorn, which will air on FOX, IGN asked them about the movie. All they had to say was that the animated project would stand on its own, having no connection to any other Spider-man media that is currently on or making its way onto the market.

This is exciting news because it means we will get a Spider-Man animated movie that is free to try new and exciting things without the constraints of a preestablished universe.

Miles Morales as really excelled as Spider-Man.

This isn’t the only Spider-Man based product that you can look forward to, though. Sony recently announced that a PS4 exclusive game starring the web-slinger is under development by Insomniac Games. In the trailer, Spider-Man is shown wearing a brand new costume that was designed explicitly for the game.

He will also get his own live action movie titled Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film starring Tom Holland recently started shooting. We know that it won’t be an origin story and Tony Stark will play a key role, but everything else is still being kept under wraps.

The Spider-Man animated film will release in 2018.
