Audiences were introduced to Spider-Man Noir in Into the Spider-Verse with Nicolas Cage voicing the character, but now he will get the live-action treatment as Amazon develops a series, Variety reported. No actor is attached, so it is unknown if Cage will reprise his role and bring him to a new lens.
The untitled series will follow Spider-Man Noir in 1930s New York. The “older, grizzled superhero” will not be Peter Parker, according to the report by Variety. No details on the story or other characters are known.
Amazon currently has quite a stake in the superhero genre. One of its flagship series is The Boys, a raunchy show of non-superheroes aiming to take down the supes who have gone mad from their fame, power, and wealth. It has developed an animated anthology series, Diabolical, and an upcoming college-centered series, Gen V. The company is also the home to Invincible, which will premiere its second season later this year. It is also developing other Spider-Man shows, including Silk: Spider Society, with Angela Kang (The Walking Dead) as the showrunner.
Spider-Man Noir live-action series swings over to Amazon
Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat) will act as the writer and executive producer of the Spider-Man Noir series. Into the Spider-Verse‘s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will executive produce with Amy Pascal. Uziel is also known for The Lost City, The Cloverfield Paradox, and 22 Jump Street.
Before making his big screen debut or going into development for a live-action series, Spider-Man Noir debuted in the comics in 2009. He was a part of the Noir Universe. It included the web-slinger, Luke Cage, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Daredevil, Punisher, and Iron Man. One of the character’s most popular runs includes 2009’s four-issue series Eyes Without a Face.
For fans of Cage’s portrayal of the character will not see him return in the sequel, Across the Spider-Verse. The film swings to theaters on Jun 2.
