The first Spider-Man game since The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (if you aren’t counting Spiderman Lizard Clone) was released in 2014 will be hitting shelves on September 7, 2018. First announced at E3 2016 by the developer, Insomniac Games, then revealed with a gameplay trailer at last year’s E3, Spider-Man is one of the most anticipated exclusives for the PS4 to be released in 2018.

There hasn’t been much revealed about the game as of now, besides last year’s E3 gameplay trailer and a recent video/interview by Game Informer with Insomniac Games displaying more of what to expect. The new video shows a more mature Peter Parker (compared to that of Tom Holland’s Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming) swinging around New York City in style. With a number of awe-inspiring camera angles being implemented by Insomniac Games,  this game’s Spider-Man will have more freedom than ever.  Check out the video below:

Insomniac Games, the developers of Sunset Overdrive, the original Ratchet & Clank series and its remake (2016), the Spyro the Dragon series, and the Resistance series, told Game Informer that their Spider-Man will be much different than what we saw in Homecoming. Peter Parker will already have established himself as a hero, with a bunch of cool gadgets you’ll be able to use throughout the game. He’ll be a confident hero. Insomniac says that “it’s all about feeling like Spider-Man.”

They go on to say that, “One of the biggest reasons that we at Insomniac connect with Spider-Man and with Peter Parker is that they’re both underdogs.” You can expect a story where the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be forced to overcome all odds in order to save the day. Since Insomniac knows about overcoming odds, especially in respect to delivering a worthy addition to the world of everyone’s favorite superhero, you can expect that they won’t be releasing an unfinished product.

It’ll be a standalone experience, one not tied to any of the movies or comics directly. Marvel Games creative director, Bill Rosemann, previously said, “I think we’ve been inspired by all the different mediums that Marvel has, whether it’s film, animation, live-action, comic books, even t-shirts. So we’re looking at everything and we’re blending it all together. But it’s standalone; all-new story, all new world. We’re always stretching, we’re always challenging, we’re always moving the characters forward.”

Most of the time he spends writing, reading (anything from comics to classic literature), playing video games, and wondering when the next Elder Scrolls title will be released. Hopefully soon...
