The creator of Stardew Valley, Eric Barone, has announced that he is currently working on two unannounced projects. The projects will be one based in the Stardew Valley universe and another that will tie into the universe in some way. The first title doesn’t appear to be a farming game, so don’t expect it to be a sequel, prequel, or expansion to Stardew Valley. The news was indirectly announced through a tweet made by the creator’s account (@ConcernedApe) in response to a fan.

Barone confirmed late last year that the first game existed, but did not give any more details at the time. In a blog post from December of 2019, he told us that the game was “on hold for the time being” as he was working on Stardew’s 1.4 update. Since then, he’s formed a team to help with Stardew content, hence why the project is back on the table. He was only secretive about it because he wanted a no-pressure environment for its development, and seems to be sticking to that mostly.

The other project we unfortunately know almost nothing about yet. We know it will likely tie into the Stardew Valley universe, but that’s about it. That’s unsurprising, though, as it appears that the game wasn’t even a concept until after that blog post went out. Speaking of that, we shouldn’t jump the gun on the hype for either of these games yet. Barone has urged that he’d “like to make whatever game comes naturally to me,” so we should give him some breathing room. Given all he’s done with Stardew Valley thus far, he deserves that at least.

Stardew Valley

Stardew captivated audiences back in 2016 with great pixel art, relaxing gameplay, and a well-polished experience. In the game, you play as a player-created farmer who escapes the big city and inherits their grandfather’s farm. You tend to your farm, interact with the different villagers, and work on the beautiful town of Stardew Valley. If you haven’t played, it’s available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Vita, Nintendo Switch, Mac, and phones.

Are you excited for both his upcoming games? What did you think of Stardew Valley? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for more news, reviews, and more!
