Set to release next year in November, fans expect the villain in Justice League Part 1 to be big bad Darkseid. That now seems to not be the case. It looks like that the villainous Steppenwolf will be the villain, according to BirthMoviesDeath’s Devin Faraci.
Though Steppenwolf did not appear in the theatrical cut of Batman v Superman, he appeared a deleted scene that was released online back in March. In the deleted scene, SWAT came to arrest Lex Luthor just to find him talking to a hologram of Steppenwolf with what is now confirmed to be a mother box. A mother box is an artifact of alien origin that gives Cyborg life in Batman v Superman. It is unsure of what Steppenwolf will do with the mother box.

In the comics, Steppenwolf is the uncle of Darkseid and leader of the military on the planet Apokolips. Steppenwolf is known to wield an ax made of energy. Justice League Part 1 will have Steppenwolf at heads with his nephew, forcing him to invade Earth with his army of Parademons as seen in the knightmare sequence in Batman v Superman. An even Superman still might appear as it was also teased in the knightmare sequence, but that isn’t confirmed.
Darkseid is also still poised to appear in Batman v Superman but only in a limited capacity. Expect to see him at the end of the film, setting up Justice League Part 1.
In March, Batman v Superman released to very negative reviews from critics and split fans. Though it didn’t perform in the box office as hoped, WB is still moving forward with the franchise. Suicide Squad will release in August of this year, with Wonder Woman in June and Justice League Part 1 in November of next year.
With filming already having begun on the team up film, expect more information within the coming weeks. For more information on Steppenwolf, check out this information page.
