Needless to say, some people should not be parents, and such is the case for Georgia mom Morgan Creel, who cooked her baby alive with a hair dryer while under the influence of drugs. The wild part of this news story is that this tragic event happened over a year ago, but the murderer is only now having an indictment returned to her by the Coweta County grand jury. The incident occurred on Nov. 9, 2023, when Creel woke up to her infant son being unresponsive.
According to Law & Crime, Creel called 911 after falling asleep while leaving a hair dryer blowing on her baby to warm him up. The deputy who arrived and performed CPR on the child reported that her son “appeared severely burnt as well as discolored on the right side of his body.” A marijuana smoking apparatus was found on her back porch; the police put two and two together, and she was accused of being high before taking a nap while her baby was being burned to death.
After being released on bond, Creel was arrested at a traffic stop in October 2024, almost a year after being accused of the second-degree of her baby boy. The reason was that she was under the influence of drugs again while driving out and about. Miraculously, she didn’t get into an accident despite weaving about and being unable to drive steadily on the road, per Fox 5 Atlanta.
The timeline has now bizarrely led to the jury finally returning to her indictment this month in January 2025 for second-degree murder and cruelty to children. Authorities state that Creel “did cause cruel and excessive physical and mental pain by leaving a blow-dryer on, and blowing heated air near said child while said accused was passed out and under the influence of a controlled substance.”
If you’re questioning the bizarreness of this Georgia woman’s case, you’re not alone. “You mean to tell me that this lady was out on the streets after she killed her baby a year ago? How!?” remarks the top commenter on Fox‘s YouTube upload of the report. “WHAT A MONSTER. What the heck is wrong with people?” questions another. “Thanks to an alert cop, at least she didn’t kill anyone else. She’s a danger to society,” chimes in a third.
This Mom’s Hair Dryer Tragedy Happened Before
This isn’t the first time a tragedy like this has happened. Back in 2012, ABC News reported the similar death of a baby daughter. The poor infant was killed by Kansas mom Brigit Hippen, who also attempted to warm up her child with a hair dryer. This murder “was more than the negligence of a new mom,” said the Reno County district attorney. Hippen and her husband left the hair dryer on, blowing on her daughter, and went to watch a movie in another room. To no one’s surprise, the irresponsible couple “accidentally fell asleep,” leaving their baby to be cooked alive.
Whatever people think about these two situations, whether they believe the deaths were a hapless accident or chargeable murder, both children certainly did not deserve such painful deaths at the hands of their careless mothers. They evidently weren’t cut out to be moms. As one commenter on the Georgia mom’s story puts it, “WHO in their right mind would think it’s okay to keep a child warm with a hairdryer?“
