There are some places where you expect to find privacy, including a waxing center. A New York woman didn’t receive the expected privacy when she went to a center she has been going to for years. The woman was left stunned in the middle of her waxing session when she realized that her esthetician was wearing Meta glasses. This is more than just invasive. When she asked her if she was wearing Meta glasses, she said yes, but then promised her that they weren’t charged, so they weren’t on. Unfortunately, the customer didn’t notice if there was a light to indicate that they were on or not. She shared on TikTok how the situation has been haunting her since it happened. It’s actually terrifying because what if the esthetician was recording her customers, and this was the first time someone noticed?
The esthetician told the New York woman that the glasses were prescription. The latter wondered why she couldn’t just get affordable glasses instead. She also thought that this must be illegal or that there should be a rule to prevent estheticians from wearing Meta glasses during waxing sessions. When she was advised to contact the corporation, she sent them an email, but their reply was a generic one. She also contacted two different law firms to see what her options were. According to her last update, one firm responded and said that she possibly has a case. She still didn’t decide whether to sue or not because she doesn’t want to get someone fired, especially if they did do anything wrong. I mean, bringing Meta glasses in during such a private moment is definitely wrong. Even if they weren’t on, they shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
People Reacting to What Happened to the New York Woman
A lot of women were just as stunned as the New York woman. Almost everyone believed that the esthetician was wrong for wearing these kinds of glasses. One woman described how shocked she was by saying, “As soon as you said meta glasses my jaw dropped.” Another woman was suspicious as she asked, “Bc why would she be wearing them if they’re ‘not charged’?” That’s a valid question. Other women started advising the customer on what she should do next. “CALL CORPORATE NOW‼!” one woman said. Someone else wrote, “You need to call the police.” Even an esthetician chimed in and said, “I’m an esthetician, that’s unethical. If you have prescription meta glasses you should have an extra pair of normal prescription glasses, that’s definitely not the time or place to wear those. If you’re not going to attempt to sue id call corporate.”
On the other hand, some people didn’t take the New York woman’s side. They started defending the esthetician, saying that she didn’t lie. “Meta Glasses have a circle where the camera is. Anytime its recording the circle flashes white the entire time during recording,” one person wrote. Another woman said, “As an avid wearer of meta glasses, the light would be on if she was recording. Meta has stated there is NO way of turning it off for privacy reasons like this. Was it inappropriate 100% BUT if the light wasn’t on (which is bright) they weren’t recording.” I have to say that it was a shocking moment for the New York woman. She already said that she didn’t notice if there was a light or not. So there is nothing that would guarantee that she wasn’t being filmed. She definitely has every right to sue.
