The Sundance Film Festival is a worldwide popular event. Some of the most popular films in the world made their debut here. But with a worldwide pandemic going on, a festival in 2021 was up in the air. No one was sure if this year’s get-together would even happen. While gatherings in person have been severely restricted, this year will still see a Sundance Film Festival. How will they manage with all the gathering restrictions in place?

Sundance Film Festival Adds Virtual Reality to Its Operations

Since its inception, VR has had many real-world applications. These days, many companies utilize technology as a training tool. And sometimes, it’s used for a place where people simply hang out. If you’ve ever wanted to attend, this year is your chance to. Instead of the traditional gathering, organizers have opted for a VR adaption to their annual film festival. Thanks to recent advances in technology, people can attend from the comfort of their homes.

The best part is that a VR headset isn’t necessary to attend. Attend the VR festival by purchasing an Explorer pass for $25. Or, if you’re looking to impress, there are premium options for digital tickets. When you ‘arrive,’ your avatar is low-spec with arms, legs, and a head. If you’re lacking VR, don’t worry. When attending Sundance in 2021, enable your webcam. This will allow your avatar to share a live feed of your face. While it won’t enable a true face-to-face interaction, it’s the closest we can currently get.

Attending Sundance previously required a substantial budget. But the addition of VR’s help has made it accessible to many more people. Organizers are also hopeful that things can return to normal in the future.

If you would like to attend Sundance VR 2021, buy tickets here. You can also find the program list here to see what’s in store.

Will you be attending the VR version of Sundance this year? Let us know in the comments!
