At long last. The long-awaited sequel to Team Meat‘s 11 years old indie darling, Super Meat Boy Forever, is now released on the PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as Xbox One and Series X for $19.99. A 10% launch discount is also available for one week only. This release follows the Nintendo Switch and PC ports that were launched first back on December 23, 2020. This time around, the dastardly Dr. Fetus kidnapped Nugget, Meat Boy and Bandage Girl’s child. Now it’s up to both of them (and some surprising new additions to the series), to punch, kick, run, and jump across “6,000 hand-made” levels filled with deathly traps to rescue Nugget — or die trying, over and over again.
You read that right. Super Meat Boy Forever is released with thousands of meticulously hand-crafted challenges that are endlessly remixed through a complex procedural algorithm. Team Meat promises that by using this system, you can replay the game from start to finish several times before ever seeing a duplicate level and having new levels to play each time. Here’s what Team Meat co-founder and programmer Tommy Refenes has to say about this “remarkable feat of engineering.” Don’t forget to watch the bloody mayhem in the launch trailer below too.
Super Meat Boy was a tribute to the golden era of console platformers, so it’s a joy to have his long-awaited latest adventure now available on all contemporary home consoles. Super Meat Boy Forever ushers in Meat Boy for the new era, where his world has been fleshed out with close to 6000 hand-made levels that are endlessly remixed using our procedural algorithm, a huge variety of power-ups, and all sorts of secrets to discover. Every replay will give you something brand new, and with all the optional challenges, Super Meat Boy Forever really can be played forever!“
A decade after its debut, with charming visuals, tough-as-nails levels, and an interesting level generation system, Super Meat Boy Forever’s next-gen release would surely quench the hunger of hardcore platformer fans on consoles.
