James Gunn just shared an exciting update regarding Superman: Legacy. On Saturday, Nov. 11, Gunn confirmed the film will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025, as originally scheduled. Over the past few months, the movie’s premiere date has been up in the air due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Since the strikes caused several films to be delayed, fans speculated Superman: Legacy would also be impacted. However, Gunn, who is set to write and direct the upcoming film, reassured fans the Superman: Legacy release date remains unchanged.
“Superman: Legacy” Release Date Is Sticking to Original Schedule
Gunn announced the good news on Instagram by sharing the Superman: Legacy release date in the style of the Superman logo. The message featured the comic book hero’s classic red and yellow colors that are reminiscent of his iconic emblem. It also had a bright blue background to represent Superman’s signature suit.
Over the years, many actors have taken on the mantle of Superman. Most recently, Henry Cavill took on the role as part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). He portrayed the character in four films directed by Zack Snyder. In 2013, made his debut as Superman with the premiere of Man of Steel. Cavill then reprised his role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Justice League (2017), and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021). He also made cameos as Superman in Black Adam (2022) and The Flash (2023).
Since DC is getting a new film universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, The Politician star David Corenswet will now be playing Superman moving forward. He’ll put on the cape for the first time in Superman: Legacy. Meanwhile, the role of Lois Lane will be played by Rachel Brosnahan. She’s known for starring in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Now that the Superman: Legacy release date has been confirmed, we can’t wait for production on the film to begin.
