Gwyneth Paltrow hasn’t been in any movie at all after Avengers: Endgame, but it appears she had a little too much fun on her comeback after five years– and with Timothee Chalamet nonetheless. In fact, the gloves came off for Gwyneth Paltrow and she even took the reins from the intimacy coordinators during her intimate scenes with Chalamet.
Paltrow, 52, revealed much of her experience working with Timothee Chalamet, 29, in their new movie, Marty Supreme during an interview with Vanity Fair. It’s worth noting that after her series of roles in Avengers and Iron Man, Paltrow focused on her business, Goop, and only returned to Hollywood at the behest of her brother, Jake.
Upon her return on the set of Marty Supreme, one of Paltrow’s newfound bewilderments was the existence of intimacy coordinators who instructed and supervised her sex scenes with Timothee Chalamet. Paltrow, on the other hand, found it weird since they didn’t exist during her heyday. So she waved off the intimacy coordinators and supposedly improvised the sex with Chalamet.
“I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie. There’s a lot—a lot. [Chalamet,] He’s such a thinking man’s sex symbol. He’s just a very polite, properly raised, I was going to say kid. He’s a man who takes his work really seriously and is a fun partner.
There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed. I was like, ‘Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on.’
We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back.’ I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but…if someone is like, ‘Okay, and then he’s going to put his hand here,’ I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that. I was like, ‘Okay, great. I’m 109 years old. You’re 14,'” recalls Gwyneth Paltrow, transcript courtesy of Vanity Fair.
Paltrow also recalls that there are plenty of sexual positions in the upcoming Marty Supreme where she’s vulnerable or in her words, even “beyond” vulnerable to Chalamet in their simulated sex. As for the movie, Marty Supreme, it involves Chalamet’s titular character crossing paths with Gwyneth Paltrow’s character– someone who’s stuck in a midlife crisis and an unsatisfying marriage. So both of them seek comfort in each other’s arms.
Gwyneth was One of the Proponents of #MeToo
Gwyneth Paltrow, now a mother of two, is no stranger to intimacy in movies as she actually began her lead roles in Hollywood at the age of 22 in the film Emma. However, during the start of the #MeToo movement in Hollywood, Gwyneth Paltrow was one of the actresses who spoke out against Harvey Weinstein. The veteran actress even detailed Weinstein’s sexual advances towards her during her first lead role in Emma nonetheless.
Paltrow’s testimony, along with other actresses’, became instrumental in Weinstein’s downfall in Hollywood and led to the creation of intimacy coordinators. Intimacy coordinators thus ensured that actors and actresses were comfortable with their intimate simulations and scenes.
The Avengers actress still believes that the #MeToo movement succeeded in Hollywood, for the most part, especially with the current absence of private hotel room meetings with film executives. She does remain skeptical that people in power in Hollywood will still abuse their leverage and authority, likely skirting around the #MeToo movement.
