A new update has been added to the recent Red Dead Redemption port, and it includes a surprise 60 FPS mode. However, don’t get too excited if you play the title on PlayStation 4 or the Nintendo Switch. The Red Dead Redemption port, which was developed by Double Eleven Studios, was met with little fanfare and much outrage after fans realized that it was a port of the 2010 title, rather than a full-scale remake. That might change with this update.
Red Dead Redemption Gets An Upgrade But Not a Large One
First reported by Push Square, and confirmed by the support page for Rockstar Games, the game will be able to run at 60 FPS if the title is being played on the PS5 via PS4 backward compatibility. In addition to this new mode, the other patch notes include “an option to enable subtitles upon first booting the game” and “general bug fixes and improvements.”
The game was released on PS4 and the Nintendo Switch, as Xbox fans can already play the original title through backward compatibility with the Xbox 360. The title includes the full base game, as well as the expansion pack Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare.
It is funny that the title was given a 60 FPS mode before Red Dead Redemption 2, which still doesn’t have one despite coming out eight years after the original game. Although one gamer did manage to get the sequel running at that frame rate while using a hacked PS5.
Now you’ll be able to play the title at 60 FPS, which is technically one step closer to the remake or remaster that fans were expecting, especially seeing as the title is $49.99. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come rather than a one-off update, and it will continue to be closer to what fans actually want. You can buy the new port on Nintendo Switch and PS4.
