Surviving Mars is a game currently in development and is set to release in 2018. This city-building simulator has a strong survival element for a science fiction game. The game is about taking the next steps in humanity by colonising Mars!
Dimitar Tzvetana, the lead artist of the project, claimed they are using photos from NASA to make the Mars planet in the game 80% like the real one. However, Jacob Munthe, the product manager, warns players that they will get punished for their mistakes because it is not a forgiving game.
Boian Spasov, designer at Haemimont Games said on the first edition of the ‘Dev Diary‘ that:
“You will test your budding colony against the real problems and dangers that a potential Mars colonization mission will face – environmental hazards, scarcity of materials, failing systems and lack of vital resources. More details will be coming in a future dev diary!”
Surviving Mars aims to aspire Astronauts and the future vision of one day breaking out into humans living on other planets. The developers are hoping not to create an ending to this game so that the possibilities for the player are endless.
Haemimont Games is a Bulgarian video game developer founded in September 1997 and based in Sofia while Paradox Interactive is a Swedish video game publisher based in Stockholm. Together they have joined to make this game become possible.
The developers chose to base the game on Mars because of the similar conditions to Earth and it will give players real problems in how, hopefully in the near future, we can colonize another planet.
The game is currently only for single-player and is set for release on Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
