Sydney Sweeney told her Instagram followers that the “cat’s out the bag” after unrecognizable paparazzi photos of her this month showed her in scruffy clothing, makeup-free, and with dark hair. Revealing that she’s been bulking up to play Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic of the boxer, the 26-year-old updated her account with snaps of her new look, one largely celebrated by her followers.
Ditching her signature blonde bombshell look for a more butch one as she showed off an impressive set of arm muscles, Sydney announced her new project with pride, although most of the comments left were about her changing appearance. While some congratulated Sydney on embracing her new role, others scrutinized The White Lotus star. That said, the comment mentioning weight gain came comparing how it’s seemingly okay for male actors to transform themselves for movies, and yet, somehow, it’s a giant deal when women do it.
Sydney Sweeney Ditches Bombshell Image For New Boer Biopic
Posing in profile between two trailers, Sydney wore baggy gray sweatpants and a loose-fitting top in red.
Going sleeveless, the MMA-trained star displayed her incredible bicep and tricep muscles, turning her head to the camera as she rocked curly, unstyled hair in brown. In a swipe right, the A-lister actress posed indoors, grimacing and smiling as she flexed one of her biceps. Showing just how much muscle she’s gained, Sydney told fans:
“Well the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes so here’s a little bts from my film im working on right now.”
Fans Discussing How Male Actors Can ‘Gain Weight’
Sydney continued that in recent months, she’d plunged herself into “training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman—a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring. her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all. more to come soon :).”
As fans commented on Sydney looking “jacked,” some weren’t keen on the level of body scrutiny.
Trying to shut things down, one fan gained likes for saying: “It’s crazy how a male actor can adjust their body for a roll by gaining muscle, gaining fat, or losing a ton of weight and no one cares.”
They added that seemingly when a female star does the same, it’s considered a “tragedy.” Sydney’s as-yet-unnamed project is being directed by David Michôd. The Armani Beauty ambassador is best known for roles including Euphoria and The White Lotus, the latter of which costars Alexandra Daddario.
