The Mysterious Pair is a sub-quest that you can start after finishing the ‘A Healer and Her Patients’ quest. Upon completing it, you will unlock the opportunity to start this optional mission by finding the Wonder Bard located in Niez, Mahag Saar. If you’re stuck on how to complete it, we’ve prepared a walkthrough to help you solve the riddles in the ‘The Mysterious Pair’ sub-quest in Tales of Arise.

(Updated on July 26, 2024 – Fact-checked and clarified the locations mentioned in the texts).

Before starting ‘The Mysterious Pair’, you will need to complete ‘A Healer and Her Patients’. You will receive this quest automatically as you progress through the main story and arrive in Menancia, Overseer Hill. Once you finish ‘A Healer and Her Patients’, you will need to travel to Niez. The Wonder Bard, one of the patients you helped in the previous quest, is the NPC that will give you this next sub-quest. Speak to the Wonder Bard; he will tell you to retrieve an instrument. He will provide you with three riddles, or “Wonder texts”:

  1. Just beyond the hovels in a land shrouded by sand and stone.
    • This text refers to Iglia Wastes.
  2. The northernmost reaches of a wasteland to the north of an abandoned village.
    • The abandoned village the text refers to is Ulzebek.
  3. It lies dormant at the back of a narrow road to the west, whereupon an ancient tower stands.
    • The last text is pretty straightforward, and players just need to follow a narrow path to find the instrument.

The instrument is located in Iglia Wastes, Calaglia. It is in the northernmost part of the area. There will be sparkles near some bushes that you can interact with. Search this area, and you will find the Iron Pipe instrument. Return to Wonder Bard with the Iron Pipe to complete the quest. You will receive the Iron Pipe, Quivering Candles, 2300 Gald, and 15 SP as a reward.
