Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian finally have something else in common besides their age-long rivalry as both women face massive boycott amid #Blockout2024 movement. The Blockout 2024 is a movement to block the social media accounts of celebities or public entities who have remained silent or shown support for Israel amid the ongoing war in Gaza. Since its cmmencement, celebrities like Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Selena Gomez, Kylie Jenner, Kim and Taylor have faced threats of cancellation, losing thousands of followers per day.
Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift Social Media Boycott Gains Momentum
Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift are among those most-targetted in this #Blockout2024 movement, with their number of social media followers declinig by the minute as a consequence of the mass boycott. The Operation Blockout geared off in full force following the May 6 Met Gala, where several celebrities flaunted their luxurious lifestyles with glam fashion displays. The event saw A-listers attend for an exorbitant $75,000 per ticket and even more overprized outfits.
This nonchallant display of luxury amid ongoing war in certain parts of the world led to comparisons to the class disparity in Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games. Most believed their outrageoius lifestyle amid global hardships showed how little they cared about prevalent political and economic crisis, and actual world problems. Ultimately, the #Blackout2024 movement gained momentum, targeting celebs present at the Met Gala and others who chose silence or are insensitive to Gaza’s plight.
While Kim Kardashian has openly made her stance clear in the conflict, rooting for humanity and freedom for all, Taylor Swift has remained mum on the subject since its October 7 blowup. This perceived lack of concern has left most fans angered, leading to their inclusion in the Celebity Block Party.
A-Listers Ignore Boycott Threats Amid #Blockout2024 Movement
Most of the celebrities targetted in the #Blockout2024 movement have since broken their silence or shown some form of support for Gaza. However, Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian remain unyielding despite the resulting boycott and decreasing fandom. In fact, the two have made their snub glaring by continuosly sharing posts on social media flaunting their wealth, while ignoring the pressure to address the Gaza conflict.
On Thursday, Taylor Swift shared a post on her Instastory, pomoting The Tortured Poets, and encouraging fans to preorder at up to $5.99. Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian took the snub several steps further, sharing behind-the-scenes photos of herself glamming up for the Met Gala. The post, captioned “The Making of…” captured her exotic, waist-cinching Maison Margiela silver dress, paired with invisible heels in its full glory, as well as the crew it took to put it all together.
Since this show of wealth is exactly what kicked off the Blockout 2024 movement in the first place, it is no doubt a slap in the face, however subtle, to those looking to pressure them into subjugation.
