While ICE may not be the talk of the town as it was at the beginning of 2026, it is still a threat that is looming above many Americans, especially those in Tennessee. Not long ago, the Health Department of Tennessee informed parents that they will have to report their children’s status to ICE, which is something that has shocked many families out there, as some kids require special treatment, and this could put their health at risk.
An article from the Tennessee Lookout found its way to the Memphis Subreddit. This report mentions how parents have until June 30 to keep their children in the health program. According to this recent information, due to certain laws that the state has established, the Health Department has to report everyone’s status to the Immigration Enforcement Division, which will eventually reach ICE.
This is particularly worrying as many children, regardless of their immigration status, have been able to be part of this health program. It is also important to note that this program is aimed toward kids with severe health issues, such as cancer or other life-threatening conditions. Now, however, some might not be able to continue to enjoy this program.
If a parent were to keep their kid in the program and they don’t have a legal immigration status, that would be a huge problem for them, as the Health Department would have to report it after June 30. Now, they could keep their children there, but also risk that ICE would eventually come for them, which is something we have seen happen across the country.
As you can imagine, this news shocked a lot of families, even those who don’t have kids in the program.
Tennessee Citizens Scared After New Health Program Regulation
When people saw this new regulation, they started sharing their comments on Reddit, with many shaming the new law and saying that it is something heartless to do to children.
“Just like Jesus would have wanted.”
“I hate the current state of this state.”
Others, however, put themselves in the shoes of the Health Department, as the order isn’t coming from them.
“It looks like the department’s hands are tied by the new law. They have to do it. So be sure to direct your ire at those actually responsible: the legislators who passed this law.“
In the end, this is something shocking to see, as many think children, regardless of their status, deserve proper health care, especially if they are suffering from a severe condition.
