Tennessee Fans Split After Usher Kicks Woman Off Stage as Awkward Clip Goes Viral: ‘She Could Have Declined in the First Place’

Snowballed into something much bigger

Usher recently invited a fan on stage during a tour stop in Nashville, Tennessee, but the interaction quickly turned awkward when the woman appeared uncomfortable as the R&B star serenaded her. Realising things weren’t going quite to plan, he stepped back and told the crowd, “I don’t think she wanna be onstage, y’all,” before ending the segment.

The clip immediately sparked debate online. Some viewers felt the fan, later identified as Gabrielle Cheyenne, simply wasn’t comfortable taking part in the intimate routine. Others argued she should have expected what was coming, given the now well-known nature of Usher’s concerts.

The discussion intensified after Gabrielle explained what had happened from her perspective. She later appeared on TMZ Live, where she admitted, “I went to the concert for Chris Brown,” explaining that she has always been the bigger fan of the fellow R&B star. Gabrielle stressed that she has nothing against Usher but said she would not have accepted the VIP upgrade had she known she would be invited on stage, adding that her reaction would have been different had Brown been the one to call her up.

The revelation added a new dimension to the viral moment. Usher and Chris Brown have been sharing the stage during the tour, which Gabrielle said contributed to the misunderstanding.

Social Media Reactions

On Reddit, opinions were sharply divided. Some commenters felt the awkward moment reflected a generational divide rather than anything Usher did wrong. One person wrote, “Ush is damnear 50 years old. That young lady ain’t into that. I bet Her mom would’ve turned up tho.” Another pushed back on the singer’s age, replying, “He doesn’t look 50 tbf.”

Others questioned whether Usher should still be performing the intimate onstage routine at all. One user commented, “Yeah 50 and married 😭 U don’t have to call Usher, go back to your wife.”

Meanwhile, several viewers felt both parties handled the situation appropriately. As one Redditor put it, “I think both parties did what they felt needed to be done… she ain’t want to play into the act and he booted her off the stage. Next!” Others were less sympathetic towards Gabrielle, with one commenter arguing, “She could have declined in the first place.”

Some also pointed out that Usher is not the only artist to cut an onstage interaction short when a fan appears uncomfortable. One commenter noted, “Janet did this in her show too. Some man was not excited and she gave him the boot. LOL”

Whether viewers sided with Usher or Gabrielle, the awkward onstage interaction has continued to spark debate online, with many still divided over who handled the moment better.
