A woman in Tennessee was slammed online after she called out two men for wearing third-reich costumes on Halloween. The woman shared a post on X featuring a picture of two men wearing SS outfits inside a bar. One of them had a red swastika on his hat, while the other appeared to be dressed as a German soldier.

I’m still in shock. For some reason, these guys thought it was a good idea to go bar-hopping in these absolutely disgusting Halloween costumes on Broadway.

In addition to the controversial outfits, the man wearing the swastika hat was holding a gas can, which many viewers interpreted as a reference to the gas chambers used to murder millions of Jewish people during the Holocaust.

The woman also shared a video showing people inside the bar taking pictures with the two men and shaking their hands as they smiled. She called them out in the caption, writing, “I’m still in shock. For some reason, these guys thought it was a good idea to go bar-hopping in these absolutely disgusting Halloween costumes on Broadway. So, internet, do your thing. Walking around in a **** uniform while carrying a gas can is never OK. And shame on the people who lined up to take pictures with them.”

The costumes were widely viewed as offensive because they turned symbols of third-reich rule into Halloween attire, despite their association with one of history’s worst atrocities. For many, seeing these symbols worn casually in a public setting can be deeply distressing, particularly to Jewish communities and others whose families were affected by the Holocaust. What might be presented as a costume can therefore come across as trivializing the suffering of millions and normalizing imagery associated with it.

Viewers Slam Tennessee Woman for Calling Out Men

Many viewers online disagreed with the Tennessee woman’s outrage and defended the two men wearing the SS costumes. Some argued that the outfits were not worth making a fuss over, while others criticized her for calling them out publicly. “Lady no one cares. We’re not looking over our shoulders at the ATM because we’re worried about N*** lol,” one person wrote. Another told her, “‘The thing’ you are suggesting is doxxing them then getting em fired/expelled from school, and prolly sued, right?! All because of a [expletive] costume, lol. That sure sounds like a good plan to make people more sympathetic towards your tribe.”

Others continued criticizing the woman for calling out the two men, with some mocking her reaction and arguing that Halloween should allow people to dress as villains. “Halloween. A time to dress up as spooky, heinous, villainous characters. WAIT NOT THOSE ONES,” one person wrote. Another commented, “Lol, you thought people were going to rally behind you.” Someone else added, “She doesn’t understand this is Halloween not liberal parade day… good grief can’t even have fun anymore.”

The post highlighted the differing views people hold on what should be considered an offensive Halloween costume, particularly when it involves symbols associated with historical atrocities. It also raised questions about whether people should publicly confront or call out those who choose to dress in such a way, even when they claim their outfits are intended for Halloween.
