A video was posted to TikTok that shows an LA Fitness member in Austin, Texas, attempting to cancel their gym membership. However, it simply didn’t turn out how he expected when he walked into the gym that day.

The video has sparked online conversations about canceling a gym membership and why there are so many difficulties for customers. Users have taken to the comments to share their opinions and frustrations about the incident.

In the video, the original poster explains that a particular machine he uses at the gym has been broken for two months. However, instead of being met with a simple procedure to cancel the membership and let him get on his way, the employee explains it’s a bit more complicated than that.

He explains that you have to come in person to cancel the membership, and even then, the employee explained that cancellation required additional steps. Membership cancellation policies can vary by location and membership agreement. The original poster jokes, “What happens if you’re on your deathbed?” to which the employee replied, “You probably need your death certificate.”

After a short while of being spoken to by this employee, the original poster became agitated, alleging that they were “running me around” instead of helping him. He then speaks to what appears to be a manager who was helping other gymgoers at the time.

Reactions to Austin Gym Not Canceling Membership for Customer

Users took to the comments to share their own experiences with LA Fitness, with some claiming that similar situations have happened to them. One person even wrote, “Shit is such a joke. Any subscription or membership should be able to be canceled with a click of a button on your phone.“

Another commenter even claims that the company has already faced legal procedures as a result of this, writing, “They faced a class action lawsuit due to making it impossible to cancel their memberships.”

One commenter claimed the company had faced legal complaints over its cancellation process, making memberships difficult to cancel. Another comment asks the same question, saying, “Why do the staff make it so hard? Like do they lose money if people cancel?” The company’s cancellation policies became a major topic of discussion in the comments.

As the video continues to go viral on social media, more people are expressing their opinions and frustrations in the comments below. There have been no updates on the situation.
